~ Charli's Angels Proud Donation ~

**
When Charli's Angels received the latest Royal Children's
Hospital Foundation newsletter, it was a unanimous decision
by the members of our Auxiliary to support the hospital with
the donation of funds to purchase a Vital Signs Monitor (VSM)
for the Rats of Tobruk Ward (formerly named Neurology Ward).
**
The Ward is a 32 bed unit in the Children's Neuroscience Centre
at the Royal Childrens Hospital, Melbourne.
The Centre provides specialised care for neurology and
neurosurgery patients, treating conditions such as:
- tumours of, and traumatic injuries to,
the brain and spinal cord
- epilepsy
- muscular dystrophy
- cerabal palsy
- stroke; and
- inflamatory conditions of the brain
**
The RCH's Neurology Ward was recently renamed the Rats
of Tobruk Ward, in honour of a group of WWII veterans who
donated $1.5 million from the sale of their meeting hall.
This funding will provide for a core paediatric neurology
training program that will improve skill levels as well as an
increase in the number of specialist paediatric neurologists.
Without the support of donated funds like those received
from the Rats of Tobruk, the Childrens Neuroscience Centre
would not be able to maintain the exceptional service for which
it is renowned.

~ Strength, Courage and Hope ~
This generosity embodies what the Rats fought for when they
defeated Rommel's Afrika Korps at the Seige of Tobruk in 1941.
"The children that we look after here, in this ward are also fighters,
They surprise us with strength and courage. They never surrender
without a fight and neither do their parents, their doctors, their
nurses or any part of the team here at RCH. The name, The Rats of
Tobruk Ward, will always symbolise strength, courage and hope for
those on our ward"
- Andrew Kornberg, Director of Neurology -

At a cost of $2700, Charli's Angels, through our fundraising events,
are very proud to be able to make the donation of one
Vital Signs Unit.

Each monitor measures a patients heart rate, temperature
and blood pressure.
The Foundation recently purchased 16 new VSM's, the
ultimate goal is to have 12 more, which would mean one for
The VSM's each bedside.
~ Why the Vital Signs Monitors are important ~
will replace three seperate pieces of equipment
with one compact device which will greatly improve patient
monitoring on the Ward. This vital equipment upgrade not
only enables the nurses to provide first class care to
patients, but also means the Children's Neuroscience Centre
can maintain its status of being a centre of excellence.
~ Improving patient care ~
Nurse Unit Manager, Sharni Fitzpatrick says "The new
monitors have made a real difference to both the patients
and staff on our unit. The nursing team are extremely
grateful, as easy access to funtioning equipment means
more time available to provide patient care, which we think
is a great outcome."
For the Rats of Tobruk Ward to provide the very best for
their patients, it is imperative that state of the art equipment
and resources are always available to care and treat their
patients.

Charli's Angels would like to say a huge thank you to family
and friends for supporting us with our fundraising events.
It is through your generosity and support that we are very proud
to be able to make this donation.
